Ed Wright gets his all natural T/A nine (video link)
Weight is so hard on parts. Harder on the motor. Harder on the tranny. I think people don't do it because racing already cost a fortune.

I've been racing in and watching cars run at the Southern Super Heavy Shootout for the past 6 years and it's nothing but busted trannys, rattled to death pistons, broken rears and axles, mixed in with an occasional low 10 second and high 9 second run. It's almost as bad as that. But heavy is hard to do. I watched a small block ford nitrous motor Lincoln qualify #1 a few years in a row and return to the pits with 2, 3 or 4 busted pistons. It's mostly due to having a tune up for a 3200lb car and then adding 600lb of balast to make weight and then not adjusting the tune up for the weight. That Lincoln finally tuned for the weight and won the event in 2005 but it normally ran low nines at 3200lb and slowed to low 10's at 3800lb.

Karl,
I was standing a few feet behind him when he launched like that, broke the 60 ft beams with the rear tires and it was still a 1.31" short time!

Hey Bret,
I almost was able to attend that Etown thing but had to work at my "day" job. Was going to attend on Ed's 3 crew limit.
Too bad I missed it and you. I coulda met up with you and said hello and forced you to make a solid roller cam for me via the 1/2 nelson method.
Ed, if and when you read this, I still get a kick out of watching you guys wheel stand past the 60' and sometimes to the 330'. And still remember the stories Jeanie told that she did the same thing and did her 1-2 shift in the air.

R&D for my own junk and future knowlage mainly.
We really did not know the tranny was hurt until the forth pass when it did not want to shift. Got the car back and had the tranny looked at and the band was completely gone. Put a improved servo in it and it picked it up a bunch. The car was running 10.0's pretty consistent, the next weekend after that the first pass it ran 9.95, the next pass well... Just lets say the car is done for the year.
We brought both sets with us at Englishtown. We had the 29" slicks and the 30" Radials. The first pass was on the radials, then we switched to the slicks and still blew the tires off, made another suspension adjustment and set the car on the bumper.

Although, I have the Comp XFI H-Roller and it is programmed to shift at 6500, so I don't want to go over 6500 at the stripe.
I run the NHRA bracket series here in OKC and try to not miss any of the points races, however, I would like to get up to Tulsa one of these days for a race.
