ECU/PCM question

ECU/PCM question

The Computer in my car is bad. Can I get the computer out of another car and put in it without reflashing and not have any problems?

with no reflash, it needs to be a 95 f-body , LT1 w/ A4 trans

with reflash, 94/95 F-body w/LT1, either trans, and 94/95 B-body, w/ LT1 or L99, any trans

What makes you say it is bad???? I only ask because I have seen A LOT of folks who were told their pcm was bad when it was not.

It's throwing a ses light, I was told that the code it's throwing means it's bad. I've replaced most every electrical/ignition component on the car, so it wouldn't suprise me if it is bad.

It was 29, which as it turns out is the secondary air pump or whatever. Some dumbass at the dealership said it sometimes had something to do with a control module in the pcm. I don't know how true that is. What I do know, is that my car skips/misses sometimes, and I'm playing hell figuring out the problem.

If your talking about the air pump that is for emissions then it shouldn't effect how your car runs, because the air pump only runs shortly after you start the car.

You're going to replace the computer because you are getting a code for the AIR pump? That's a heck of a leap of logic. Have you checked the AIR pump fuse?

I haven't yet, I just got the car back last night. That doesn't explain why it's missing though.

No, but a PCM rarely causes a miss. Igniton components are usually to blame.

Is that what he said, or did he say that this is in fact the problem that's causing your code?

If he's just guessing about it, then I hope you didn't have to pay for that "diagnosis."

If the mechanic said "it has something to do with a module in the PCM".... he's confused, or using the wrong code list. DTC 29 is for the AIR pump in the 94/95 LT1 F-Bodys. But in the 93 F-Bodys, many of the high current loads were run by "quad driver" modules in the ECM. But they don't have those modules in the 94/95 PCM's as far as I know. There is no DTC 29 for a 93, but 26, 27, and 28 are for the "quad driver modules", so he may just be confused.

DTC 29 is most likely caused by a bad fuse for the AIR pump. Replace the fuse. If it continues to blow the fuse, simply unplug the AIR pump harness connector, then put a new fuse in, and the code can be cleared.

Yeah, I did that on my Camaro. Anyway, I know I have a bad plug wire, so I'm gonna replace it and that will probably fix my skip and I'll pull the wire and replace the fuse on the air pump thing if I can. I'm so sick of bad diagnosis by so called mechanics. I spent like $1500 trying to fix problems that weren't there because my cat was stopped up.

Ok, so I did the fuse thing and the ses light is out. I also replaced the bad plug wire, and it still skips. I'm sick of this ****. I've replaced the opti, plugs, wires, maf sensor, coil, icm, fuel pump and pressure regulator with no results.
