eating up coils!!!!

I have gone through about 8 or 9 coils in about 2 months. My wires to the coil dont look messed up.. I ran another ground from the battery to the coil grounds thinking that would help.I run a stock coil and dont have MSD or anything. I have no SES lights or anthing wrong with the car. THe car will be running fine and then just die. Why is it going through so many coils? Please help....

How are coming up with the coil being fried? What kind of tests have you run and have you changed anything latley that could have caused this?

Have you checked the gap on the plugs? Any chance you're using the stock AC/Delco plugs, and the platinum pucks have fallen off, opening up a huge gap that the stock coil can't fire?

+1 to that

the biggest killer of coil is too much of a load on the output

Have you checked the resistance of the coil wire?

well some coils had lower resistance then others, as i said i have gone through about 8. the wierdest was i tested the accel coil and it had like 9.5 ohms of resistance. Although some coils had 8 ohms and less. im using ngk tr55 which i just recently put in and made sure were gapped right. I mean when i put in a different coil i get low spark and that last for a little bit till my car eats it again. Just recently i put another coil in and when i took the car for a drive it was missing so bad under acceleration that u could hear it. im starting to also think the opti might be done, as i changed cap and rotor but never touched the guts(they r still stock). Would a bad optispark contribute to eating coils?

if you can see arcing under the hood, its time to change your wires. that is probably your miss.

8 ohms, or Kohms? And this is how you have determined that the "car eats it"? What is the resistance of a new coil, before you install it? And how has the resistance changed after the "car eats it"? And replacing the coils, even with a brand new one, does not come close to curing the problem?

What's wrong with this picture ?

I thought you were running MSD 8.5's Luke?

Also if all you replaced was the cap and rotor -- the optical sensor could be bad or on its way out and that could be contributing to your ignition issues.
