easy fan question

i have stock thermostat, but the tune i have on the car is turning the fans on at 180 and the second ones at 186... is this going to wear out the fans, in the morning when cold it runs right at 180, in the afternoon it just turns the fans on and attempts to run it as cold as possible but more like 190 - 210
???

if i'm not mistaken the stock thermostat is 195....

so that means you're fans are on before the stat is even open. THAT'S BAD

put a 160 stat in there and the fan settings will be perfect

Re: easy fan question

ok thats what i thought, i dont have money right now so ill just cange the tune to turn the fans on at 200 and 208. but will it kill the fans for them to be staying on for a while, like a week.

And when i was burning the pcm i noticed that their is a squeeky bearing once the fans turn off, how much longer do they have left?

Thanks...

You are mistaken. The stock thermostat is 180°.

My rule of thumb is to program the fans at least ~20° higher than the thermostat temp. Then they won't be on all the time. The engine will naturally run ~15 higher than the thermostat temp during normal cruising. There is no need for the fans to be on any longer than they need to be. No sense in the extra wear.

No telling how long a squeaking motor is going to last.

Re: easy fan question

really, 180... i never would have guessed, it was running a little over 210 most of the time, and for gm i guess that was the general temp that most of their motors run at...

o well, when i get a chance ill program it to turn the first ones on at 195-200 and the second ones at 200-205

thanks much
