Easiest way to separate intake from block?

I've removed all the fasteners and cut through the RTV sealant at the front and rear of my intake, but it still isn't showing any signs of wanting to come loose. This is a Hogan's intake, BTW, and I have no idea what they used for gaskets with my AFR 215s or whether they coated them with sealant also. Any ideas or tips?

if you have a rubber mallet, tap on the lightly on all sides of the intake. This kind of breaks it loose, with out creating hard metal to metal contact.

I remember we hit all sides of the intake with a rubber mallet. Then used a flat head, and stuck it in between the two. Then gently lifter, and it came off real easy.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that tonight. I have an angled "gasket scraper", but didn't want to just wedge it in there and start prying.

This may sound butchy but work great.Use a plastic hammer to shake it lose and then stick a long pipe through the throttle body holes in the intake (throttle body removed) and lift up.Becareful when it breaks the seal.Good luck

I used an really big screw driver, there is a little "plying" surface on the front drivers side, just make sure if you clean all the left over RTV off.

I ended up having to pound the gasket scraper (more of a long flat chisel) in between the intake and the heads at all four corners to break it loose, and then slipped a pry bar in between the driver's side head and intake at the front and carefully pried it up. I only scraped up the underside a little, and of course the gaskets were destroyed.

Now... how's the best way to remove the RTV? I got 98% of it off with razor blades and "Goop" adhesive remover, but the rest just won't come off. It's a very thin film, more or less, at the front and rear of the intake.

Also, any recommendations on the best aluminum polish? The Mother's polish I have (in a tub) seems to be too harsh. It scratched up the top panel of the intake which was polished previously.

Try some laquer thinner or fingernail polish remover.

I always use a wire wheel on the block to get the RTV off.

Same here...mine is usually really stuck on there. I have a fiberglass shovel handle I put through one of the intake holes and pry it up with that.

try a very sharp blade, like an exacto or razor to get off the rest of the rtv.

and i know you already got the intake off, but heres another method: unscrew the top throttle body screws till thyre out enough to hold them, and use them to pull off the intake kind of like handles. hth
