Easiest way to intsall L/Ts on a LT1
Easiest way to intsall L/Ts on a LT1
was just wondering what the easiest way to install L/T headers on a LT1 would be.. I have the tranny out with it getting re-built.....and I don't exactly want to drop the motor...so any info would be great.....Pretty sure this seems like a pretty dumb question to most...plz forgive the stupidity on my half

easy if you have a lift. Otherwise jack stands will do but you will consume more time. I have done 3 installs with jack stands. 2 times i had to loosed the motor mount and jack up about 6 inches. It is fairly easy though just takes patience and beer. I have done 2 out of 3 installs by my self. Not as hard as it seems. I had more trouble with my old BBK shorty headers...

Unless you are at least PREPARED to lift the motor, I would take it to a shop. The drivers side will go in if you remove all the proper parts. The passenger side MAY go in but probably not. Some claim they didn't have to do anything special to get it in, but with my own experience, I had to tow it to a shop and I believe they had to lift the motor on the passenger side and slip in. Not a small job at all. If you plan on doing it at your house or something, I hope you have all the proper tools and some experience.

If you took the tranny out on your own, you should have no problem getting the headers in. The passenger side is the trickiest.
Get car up as high as you can, or on a lift. With tranny out it should be a snap. Remove the altenator and the motor mount bolts. You will have to jack the motor up on each side to give you more room.
On the pass side, the tricky part was getting the front header flange around the AC tubes that wrap around up front. Also remove the starter, should be no prob.

Its not an overly difficult job and can be done with jackstands and a floorjack. My best advice would be to soak all of the old hardware very well with PB Blaster, that will make disassembly a breeze.
Re: Easiest way to intsall L/Ts on a LT1
I didnt have to pull the alternator. I did mine on a lift no base, both went in through the bottom. I didnt have to jack the motor up much, mostly on the passenger side as stated already. I pulled the steering linkage to get the driver's side in. Its not that hard of a job, just frustrating and time consuming. It took longer to get the stock crap off though. BTW, put new motor mounts in while you have the headers out of the way. I didnt do it since my car had low miles and 6 months later swapped them out. What a pain in the *** doing it with the headers in!

jack it up, if you can use a lift like they said above^^ and you dont need to lift the engine out of anything, just be prepared to spend aboot 9 hours on it if youre not familiar with it good luck

that sounds like a fun job I would goahead and do atleast a intake gasket why the motor is out for the K-frame!!K-frames arent so fun u will be spendin a good bit more time then any header install!!
Re: Easiest way to intsall L/Ts on a LT1
Ok...well I have the Drivers side in and bolted up...The Passanger side is being a little bit more tricky.....I have noticed that with the Tranny being out it provided alot of working room, but also the degree the motor is tilted at just wasn't working cause the header was hitting the K-Member and preventing me from getting it in at the right angle to bolt it in place....but problem solved, it's In, just needs to be tightend up and it's good to go....can honestly say I would much rather do it agian if the Motor is actually out of the car next time
