Easiest 1.6RR valve adjustment procedure?
Easiest 1.6RR valve adjustment procedure?
Hey guys,
Finishing up Hotcam install. I need to know the best and easiest procedure to adjust the valves on this thing so I can put the valve covers back on and get the car put back together!!!
From what I understand, at TDC I can adjust most of them, then with one full rotation I can adjust the rest. Which can I do when?! Don't tell me just to look at it, because I can't possibly tell what position the valves are in. I need to know which valves/cylinders at which crank position.
Thanks!
-Michael

Sorry to jump in on this, but i had a similar post a few days ago about how my step-son readjusted my rockers, now at idle, in gear, it runs rougher and almost dies sometime, but runs ok when the gas is given- He went by some manual he had--i read Shoebox's Tech page on adjusting, but i was wondering if you could just loosen all the rockers a certain amount and do nothing else--like maybe loosen all rockers a quarter turn, put valve covers back on--i was told you might be able to do that, but i wanted more ideas as im no mechanic but could turn the rockers a little--Thanks Dwayne

Trouble is, you don't know what the preload really is or if it was adjusted exactly the same on every valve to start with.I have done what you are suggesting, but it was when I had just adjusted the preload and decided it was either too loose or too tight. In your case, it certainly won't hurt anything unless you get them way too loose.
