Eagle crankshaft

on the eagle crankshaft for a 95 z28 i got from summit there were two key way like pins in the end where the crank gear goes on with the timing. and im wondering if you need to take both of those keys out to install the hub on the end so it goes all the way on or do you just need to take out the first one. and would that cause engine vibration not being in there far enough because of both keys not being taken out?

If you're gonna use a non keyed hub, you're gonna have to either buy an lt1 crank key for your year of engine, or cut the one that came in it. Reason being the key will poke out past the crank gear and wont let the hub go up far enough. You wont have any vibration from not using the keys, its too close to center of the crank and not enough mass to make a difference

He can just file a little notch int he one that holds the timing gear in place, can't he?

It doesnt matter how he gets there, the end result just needs to be the key is flush or slightly below the leading edge of the timing gear. So that the hub will sit flush with the timing gear. The other option is to take the hub down to the machine shop and have them cut a keyway in it, then he can leave both keys installed. That is the method I prefer. But really in the scheme of things it doesnt matter for these engines in non supercharged apps.

Broaching a key-way in the hub is a very easy process for the machine shop - I would guess they would charge $40 or their minimum shop charge.

agree'd, take ur hub to a local machine shop and have a key way cut, no more worries or problems well worth the money spent

I just installed an eagle crank and the small gap created between the hub and key had no effect. I got about 5k on the rebuild now.
