E Brake light on??? Help.
E Brake light on??? Help.
I recently finished installing my 3.73 gears. Put everything back in and went for a test drive. The car runs great, but I noticed my e-brake light is on. The e-brake handle is all the way down and I don't remember doing anything to the e-brake, other than taking the calipers off the rotors. The calipers stayed connected to the brake system the whole time though. My friend, who helped me, said it was possibly that the e-brake line was tugged a bit causing the light to go on. Anybody had this problem, or know what caused the light ot go on?
i had that exact same problem, except for i was leaking brake fluid bad!!, put the car in the garage and did a head/cam install, when i started it up the light was still on ,and we fixed the brake line problem, bled the system and everything, my dad is a tech at a gm dealership and he said there is a switch that needs to be reset inside the brake thing behind the air intake, where all the brake lines attach to . not sure if thats the case w/ you, but we're having the SAME problem and thats my problem.
Mystic- The "thing" is your ABS module. If you don't have an ABS light nothing ABS related has been affected. When you bleed your brakes you MUST bleed your ABS module first.
25th- The e-brake is actually self adjusting and automatically compensates for cable slack, but you probably jacked up one of your cables doing the rearend swap. There actually is a free travel adjustment you can makefor free tavel in the handle.

Check for cable freeplay at the calipers....
* car on jackstands
* disconnect cable from caliper
* remove e-brake lever return spring (the lever on the CALIPER not the one on the console)
* have friend in car lightly apply brakes (just enough to stop the wheel from spinning) have friend hold steady pressure until you're through....
* have friend pull e-brake handle until freeplay is removed
* measure .024 - .028 (feeler guage) between the e-brake caliper lever and the caliper....
Greater than spec = to much freeplay
Less than spec = too little
You really need a Haynes or Chiltons manual........
