Dynomax Bullets

heres another survey type question going out to you guys. i am asking because i am switching my exhaust setup and trying out true duals with turndowns...

the ones from summit for example are available in 12" and 18" but i have even seen other people going to a 26". the longer length acts pretty much for noise reduction i would imagine.

sooo...is the 12" going to be TOO LOUD, as in obnoxious

18" going to sound different? quieter? tone?

26" any losses in performance?

you get the idea behind the trends here, so assuming i dont want something that sounds like a tractor trailer with no mufflers, would the 12" still be a good idea (idle v. WOT?)

i was planning on 3" inlet and 3" outlet as well. what tailpipes are you guys running for true duals on a modded N/A LT1...?

I don't think you would lose any performance using a longer one, I just bought an 18" one to use as an ORP and it is basically just a straight through 3" pipe. It has a series of perferated holes inside, that's wrapped with a 4" outer shell with fiberglass sandwiched inbetween. I can't imagine a 26" one would flow any worse than a 18" one. I'm pretty sure the bigger you go the more it's going to muffle the sound. I really don't think it's going to muffle it a lot though in a true dual setup, I'm just using one to take out the rasp in my SLP header/Borla exhaust. If I were doing true duals I think I would use at least a pair of the 18" ones, I can't imagine the 12" would do much at all. People here have used them in true duals and they say they are pretty freakin loud!

Edit: It says "high temp ceramic packing", not fiberglass.

Yes thats them. I think Summit has them listed as actual complete muffler and the little bit of pipe that sticks out the end length and Jegs has them listed as just the muffler itself length. So the 18in ones at Jegs are the 24in ones at Summit. I've order them from both companies. Doesnt matter length your not gonna lose any power simply cause they are just straight pipe wrapped in steel wovin fibers rather than fiberglass that will heat up and blow out after time. Get the longest ones you can. I have the longest ones and it still doesnt quieten it down enough. I start my car up in the mornings and I know my neighbors hate me Im soon about to run them out the back and add a 12in bullet at the end. I have 2 12in bullets that I use to run on my true duals before I replaced them with the longer ones.

I replaced my loudmouth resonator with a 12 " bullet. perfect fit and NO more drone. Sounds much better.

Im running the12" Bullets 2 1/2 inch intlet and outlet. I love the sound of them. It sounds awsome. Just cruising around it sounds like a good catback, like a loudmouth, but it sounds deeper and more mellow, and smooter because of the true duals. But at Wide Open Throttle, it sounds like a beast. Roars like a oldschool carbed smallblock. Trust me you will love it.

Only issue I have with the exhaust is, the makes a quiet rapid raspy noise on deceleration. But its just a pet peeve lol.

excellent info, i think i am just gonna get the 18" ones, with flowmaster turndowns all from summit. its only $100 for all 4 of those parts then!

from the collector of the LT to the bullets is going to be a custom fabbed X pipe with the neccessary length to make it all work so that the turndown is postioned right near the pumpkin on the rear.

sounds like a good idea? or should i go ahead and order the x-pipe section too? i dont feel like insulting some exhaust shop by spoonfeeding them all the parts, i am sure an x-pipe is easyyy thing to do and the a couple more bends and the exhaust should be ready to go.

NEW IDEA----go to summit and type on wlk-17221. these are dynomax ultra flo mufflers. they flow as good as the bullets with a more refined sound. less rasp. slightly quieter when cruising, but still scream at WOT. well this is what dynomax's sales rep just told me, the guy seemed pretty genuine when telling me the bullets are truly for race use only...hmm

anyway, the size i hope isnt going to be a problem, they are as long as a bullet and as deep as a bullet, but just a little wider, 10" wide instead of 4" wide, thats all....

anyone have something to say about these???

THANKS!

p.s.--$66 each instead of the bullets $37 each, oh well

Yes those are Great mufflers. I would love to have those on my car but think about ground clearance with those. The race bullets scrub every once in a while so i can imagine the 6in round Ultra flos.
