Dyno'd my Car today...

This was all done on a DynoJet...
Car has 138K miles and with only bolt-on's in sig.

First pull was with my Borla Exhaust with closed plate
Accerleration from 2600-5600rpm
Made- 260rwhp 303rwtq

Second pull I opened up the Borla exhaust.
Accerleration from 2600-5400rpm this time.
Made- 267rwhp 301rwtq
Suprised to see a 7hp gain with the exhaust wide open

So what ya guys think??

That aint bad for those kind of miles. Especially since the only power mods you really have are a y-pipe cat back and tune.

I wouldnt really have expected much more out of it since it has those kind of miles on it. Open that exhaust up though. Get some headers for it.

EDIT

*Sorry, I didnt see that you had a CAI too.*

I guess they could have been a little hiegher numbers then, but there are too many factors to figure in.

They arent "bad" #'s for that kind of mileage though.

How old are the plugs, wires, air and fuel filters? Do you frequently run fuel injector cleaner through it? I know it seems like common sense, but these little things can make noticable difference if their negleted. Especially plugs and wires.

Re: Dyno'd my Car today...

For the money you would spend upgrading from an LT1 car to an LS1 car, your expenses for the motor are almost covered.

An LT1 car with those miles, would sell for, around here, about $5500 ish.

You can't touch an LS1 car (In good shape) around where I live for under $10,000.

$4500 could buy yu some sweet **** for your LT1 car.

Re: Dyno'd my Car today...

I will be going to the dyno in a week or two.
I am hoping to be in the 290RWHP 330RWTQ area.

I am glad to see that you did the tests with the Borla opened and closed. From what I have gathered most people see the best gains with the plate with the smallest hole or the closed plate. It seems that if you have a blower or big nitrous then the big hole plates shine.

I wonder why the HP climbed but the torque dropped with the open pipe and what that really means?

I am going to test with the two plates I just mentioned.

Do you think the 1LE elbow showed any gains?

Re: Dyno'd my Car today...

I would bet the 1LE elbow would show next to zero gains on a dyno. On a heavily modified engine, maybe. Not on a near stock one though.

The stock one isnt that restictive. MAF ends are more restrictive than the elbow. Actually, aside from the donkey *******, the stock elbow isnt that bad of a design.

Look at it this way: The elbow is bigger than the throttle blades, so it cant hold back that much.

Also Antz, I didnt mean the numbers were bad, just that they aint that great either. Alot of people are dynoing 250+ with stock M6 cars. And with a CAI, and Cat-back, close to 270, headers ( LT's throw on about another 15RWHP, if not more)

At any rate, the numbers arent bad. Especially for the miles.

im sure i gained a few ponies, but im not certain because this was the first time the car has been dyno'd

I may go back sometime and test the smaller hole plate for the exhaust. But i wanna do something else to the car if im gonna take it back in again

Has something to do with backpressure i think. My buddy lost 5 t/q and gained 7hp with a open cutout.

Yea,

The less back pressure there is in the exhaust, the less low end tourque. It's an trade off though for top end horsepower. Also, I believe the less backpressure there is, the further UP in rpm's the peak tq/hp will climb ( Not significantly, but it does some )

Re: Dyno'd my Car today...

Congrats! Those numbers look about in line with other cars with similiar mods that I've seen. In fact, I would be very pleased with your numbers with the mileage that's on the car. I wonder if a custom dyno tune would pull a few more ponies? Not knocking a Mad tune or anything but IMO every car reacts different to certain computer "tweaks" that a dyno tune can offer.

Keep the LT1 and make it outrun the LS1's .
