Re: DYNO test today....see results?

well id clean before buying, unless you find a set cheap, or will some in the future anyways.

id have yoru tune looked at then, something sounds a miss. all i know is that it was a night and day difference with the chips swapped. and my car ran fine too, and we did do a gtech, it too made about 230rwhp with just the hypertech chip.

When you got a 234 hp read out...was it all in tuning that created your improvement......what are your new numbers?

cant remember i think it was around 270, but the car pulled so much faster, ran way smoother up top.

have someone knowlegable with the lt1s look at your tune first. try and find a locall off this board to help you out.

You're well over 100rwhp off.

You need to start with the basics: Spark and fuel.

Exactly.

The tune is not the problem. No way would you gain 100 rwhp with a new tune. Id look into maybe the rockers being too tight and the cam possibly being ground incorrectly... did you degree it? What valve springs are you using?

Re: DYNO test today....see results?

Well as far as the internals of the engine, i don't know if they degreed it or how tight the rockers are. I'm just so skeptical about believing everything coming out of the engine shop. what degree should to cam be set in at anyway? All the money spent on a re-build, i would hate to have to pull that thing out again just to check someone elses work.

As far as the springs, i purchases fully assembled AFR heads. so basically they just got botled on. Should anything have been done to them prior to installation. Again the shop installed these heads also.

Your screen name only forshadows the irony of this post. Perhaps a tear down is what is needed to get to the bottom of this mystery. I doubt any shop would admit they "messed" up somehting during your engine build. Only way to find it is to have a good friend close by that knows what thier doing, or take it to another shop and have them play investigator.

Re: DYNO test today....see results?

i think hes got a ton of drivetrain loss. i bet if someone looked at his tune there is lots to be made up.

maybe the maf is broken, unplugged or something, pcm could be running in limp mode.

theres no way a rebuild is gonna drop that much hp. theres no need to tear it down. its somethign simple the shop messed up on because they dont have lt1 experience

Re: DYNO test today....see results?

the only thing that may affect no screen is it may have been damaged if something went up that way.

post your results because im begining to think it may be possible the cam may have been installed wrong, degreed in wrong. hope thats not the case though.

Just line the dots up, no? Degreeing would certainly point to a problem with the cam if there was one.

Re: DYNO test today....see results?

yes you line in the dots, but some sbc builders like to degree lt1 cams in advanced or retarded, if its degreed wrong then that may explain the huge loss of hp.

which is why it is best to have the advanced or retard ground into the cam.

Re: DYNO test today....see results?

Before degreeing the cam, I think a compression and cylinder leak-down test is warranted on all eight. The valves may be too tight or the builder may have screwed something else up(improper rings) that the leak-down/compression test will find. You might also want to put a scanner on as well to see what your readings are a WOT when you dyno it. Check for codes, check the TPS voltage . Check the 02 readings and make sure your going into closed loop. Check the retard at WOT. You may be getting tons of retard.
If you have compression and your cam is timed properly it is unlikely the motor's internals, in that case you'll need the scanner to help you diagnose the problem.

Good luck.
