Dyno #'s with LE2 heads

First off this is on the stock 99K mile bottom end, stock waterpump, and heavy 17x11's with 315's with 26psi in the tires so its not a dyno queen. I'm still having the problem at 5800 RPM's. I'm starting to think its ignition related, any ideas? Other than that the car ran great on the dyno, the baseline was 391rwhp so I gained 14rwhp. I'm going to the track tomarrow so keep an eye out for that thread with track #'s. Anyway here's the graph.

30rwhp gain with the heads. I wonder what it'll put down once I fix the topend problem.

Here's a video of a few runs.

So Speed, what springs are on those heads? No expert here, but yeah, something looks like it's off. Still got nice HP though, I'm jealous.

918's. I don't want to start guessing whats wrong and wasting $$ doing it, so I don't know where to start. It did it with my old heads, at the exact same RPM as before. Hopefully Lloyd or Bret will chime in.

Yep, hopefully they will. My graph use to look like that untill the 918s went on.

Can you detail that out a little better?

What was the baseline combo that you gained 14 rwhp over?

What was the combo that you gained 30 rwhp over?

The highest I dyno'd before the heads was 375rwhp, the baseline I put down yesterday was 391rwhp, then I ended up with 405rwhp. So I gained 30rwhp over my old heads before I sent them to Lloyd, and I gained 14rwhp over the baseline I put down on my old tune for the old heads.

So the 375 rwhp was with other ported heads?

Hey I had the same problem with my set up le2 heads le1 cam made 397 hp 367 tq on a mustang dyno. Mine fell completely off at 5800rpm and never recovered. Consider yourself lucky. I tried to figure out why mine had that similar problem, but after 2 weeks of driving it on my 48,ooo mile stock bottom end. KABOOM. I spun every bearing in the bottom end. Good look with yours, Ill bet it only last one week of driving it hard with 99,000 mile on it. good luck with that.

That little part of the graph that says a/f.

I'm 99% sure its valve float, on my scanmaster the MAF goes crazy at 5800+

I guess it could be valve float, but I would be surprised to see it recover, climb and reach peak power after float has started. Usually, once it starts it's just downhill from there. I really don't know what that looks like--almost like you get 10 degress of knock retard or something, setting it back but allowing it to climb again.

These are new heads and you had the same problem before? Did you use the same springs and are they set up the exact same way? What are the installed spring heights? Did you double check them yourself?

I hope you get it figured out as it seems like an odd problem and I'd be curious to find out the cause. Once you get it straightened out you'll have a real monster it looks like.

Back on the old graph I just threw the 918's in without checking the installed height and it happened at the same exact RPM. Then I set the installed height but never made it back on the dyno before it blew a head gasket. Lloyd set them up at 140lbs on the seat, but the heads also got 2.0/1.56 valves so I'm guessing those are heavier. There is no knock retard at all, and the max that is allowed is 4 degrees anyway. Could it possibly be a bad opti?

for giggles, throw in an OBDI pcm with the exact same tune.
