Angry dyno numbers 224/230 112

i dynoed the car today, i have the graph but need to scan and post it. the car is a 355 m6, with a 224/230 cam. the heads have been lightly ported, longtubes, and hooker muffler.

run 1
329.5 hp @ 5600rpm torque 334.7 @ 3800rpm (no muffler)

run 2
336.5 hp @ 5800 rpm torque 336.6 @ 3600rpm (muffler)

car was programmed by madwolf, before i gained the extra cubes. i dont know what the air/fuel ratio was, these numbers seem low. i dont have flow numbers on the heads either. the dyno operators were kinda impressed with the numbers, but i wanted to push it off a cliff. my torque curve seems choppy. ill try to get the graph scanned and maybe you gurus can help. the car traps at 90mph in the 1/8th, i figured i would have had atleast 350rwhp. i guess i need to get the car scanned and tuned.
i am not a happy camper right now.

I feel your pain.

I installed the same cam on stock heads and am very disapointed.

Seems like it has NO bottem end and not much top end.

Im going to be switching it out for a custom cam while im putting ported heads on.

I got 326/318 - A4 & stock heads though. Something's definitely up, you should be seeing in the 350 ballpark.

exactly, it made me mad that he wouldnt hookup a wideband to gauge the air to fuel. i could understand if it was running rich why the numbers are low. it was a dynojet dyno, i may just run up to springfield il, and have hp factory tune it. there are guys on here getting over 360 rwhp with this cam. i put a muffler on the car and it gains 7hp, my custom y-pipe blows so that could be some of it, would gaining 5 cubic inches make that big of a deal. like i said madwolf programmed it before.

if it's trapping 90 in the eighth then it doesn't seem to be lacking power. The dragstrip tells all.

Yeah,

You definatly need to check into that tune that you have. If you look at my dyno graph at www.geocities.com/dmoss69, You'll see that I have a lot more torque in the lower rpms than you have, and I have the 224/230.

This cam is an XE grind, so you're torque should be great at low rpms, where as your's is really low at low rpms, <2500 rpms. I'd look into the timming tables, and get that A/F ratio checked out.

Also, I have home ported heads and 3 angle valve job, which helps low lift flows out tremendously, but I still would think that you should have more tq down low.

If you have tunercat, and want to try my tune, let me know I'll send it to you.

dyno tune.. only way to be sure... a few days ago we got 22rw ft lbs of torque out of a stock 5.0 mustang by pulling some timing back..

had a lt4 top end camaro put 240rwhp to the ground got 44 rwhp with a tune but something was still seriously wrong.

Basically put u need a dyno tune.

Might just be me, but power looks like it falls off FAST. Doesn't level out, just takes a dive. Plus, your low end torque is poopy. Something definitely up there. Some people may think I look to this everytime, but still, did you degree the cam to verify its installation, or just put it dot to dot? I would check that FIRST. If you have a custom cam installed wrong, it will be crappy too.

Most of the EX grind cams drop off in power really quick after 6k rpms... And this one doesn't look much different.

BTW - something's definitely up if your trapping 90mph w/ just 335rwhp.. you're closer to 360 or so... At full weight at least.

highest HP ive ever heard of out of a 224/230 on stock heads was 343.

I think this cam is right on the hairy edge of running well on stock heads, and responds really well to ported heads.

Maybe i just have bad luck tho.

The dyno numbers seem low to me compared to your 1/8 mph. My car traps a best of 90mph in the 1/8 also and dynod at 355rwhp with a raceweight of 3480. Maybe the dyno was off or something.

Sure sounds like just some mild tuning but you are not too far off. What are your goals with the car? Are you more interested in dyno numbers or quick times at the track? Sometimes the two don't jive. I ran 8.6's at 83mph in a turd 86 mustang with a dyno tested 166 rwhp last season. If you are looking to go fast at the track/street then I would look at your suspension. 325 hp at the wheels is more than enough to run low 12's (high 7's 1/8th). Something else is missing in the equasion. If you are just looking for dyno numbers then it's time to get to work on the induction setup and computer tuning. Some other things that help on the chassis dyno are synthetic fluids all around (tranny/rear end/oil) and changing tire pressure.

i dynoed 335/345 and trap around 108-109 with the cam. it performs where it counts even though i wanted a little higher hp. and on the street it performs as well.
