Dropped valve, do I need full rebuild? (pics)

Dropped a valve, valve by itself looks good, but it's bent. Piston took some beating, cylinder walls looks excellent, no scratches.

Is it possible to just sand/polish a piston or I need it replaced with some bottom end work. Unlikely chunks of metal went down, but who knows...

if it were me i would have a trained eye look over your head and if it checks out put a new valve in and run it. really depends on your budget. i seen a speed pro 20 over??

Could mean a bent rod, too. Better do some in depth checking.

This is what I think I will do. Will see what happens, at least there is a high probability that it will be ok. Yep, I was surprised to see speed pros there, I thought only top end of this engine was updated by previous owner....

Thank you Rob, is there any checks I can do without pulling the engine out? It would be a major hassle as I will need to move car to a different place for that - not enough room now...

If a rod is bent, at TDC that piston will be lower in the cylinder than the others if you measure from deck (the flat surface the head bolts too) down.

Use a accurate caliper and measure to the same point from TDC to deck on all the cylinders. There should be very little variation (.001's) and if that cylinder the piston sits lower, you bent a rod.
