Drop the pan or flush?

I was planning on dropping my pan and changing my filter and fluid tomm. But i was questioning whether or not it is better to drop or to have it flushed because if you dont flush it then the old fluid in the convertor stays in. But i also heard that flushing can be bad. So, what do you think? By the way my car has 70k.

i just dont see how removing half of the fluid is going to help. But i want to change my filter and if i have i flushed they wont change it. You may say that i can just change the filter now and put fluid in it (5 qts of mobil 1 costs $25)then have it flushed later but that would cost extra $$$ that i dont have right now so i dont know what i should do.

One more question, i heard about a method where you take of the return line from the cooler and let it drain in a bucket for 5 sec while the car is running to get all the dirty fluid out. Does this work. Also, how do they get the fluid out of the converter when they flush it or do they? Sorry about all they questions, i am just paranoid about me tranny considering i just had one go out in my dodge ram. Thanks

I also took my car to some el-cheapo place to change my tranny fluid. they put some non Dexron III stuff and the thing would start to slip like crazy after a month or 2. I said screw that, took it to my good ol mechanic and he put in the right fluid... the car ran great after. Don't mess with alternative tranny fluid.. its bad =/

a GM 4L60E engineer and tester (he tests them on the prooving grounds) told me to use fords fluid. snythetic is not a good choice.

If you decide to flush your tranny don't let them put any cleaner in before the flush or add a conditioner after the flush with the miles you have.
I work at a chevrolet garage and they don't recommend it.
