Driveability/Tunability

I am a crossroads about cam choice. I want a cam that is going to make power, be lopey, but still have driveability, and access to a good tune via mail. I would like to get a GM cam, since I get a discount on stuff for my car through my work (dealership). I think the GM 846 (222/230) would be a great choice as it isn't too big to kill driveability. The lift with 1.6 RR would be around ~.542/.563 and I think surge wouldn't be bad. The GM 847 (234/242) would be with 1.6 RR 575/595 lift. I want great power throughout the RPM's, but don't think I am willing to push my engine much past 6000 RPM's, where the 847 makes great power. I plan on keeping stock heads at the moment, adding a stall converter around 2800 rpms, longtubes... and valvetrain. Thats my project for winter anyways. I am pretty sure that the 846 would be good, and is similar to the 224/230 and CC305 I think, yet bigger than the hotcam. I plan on ported heads later, as well as most likely a rebuild and addition of a bigger cam later, (847?) Would low 12's be out of the question on this, with traction of course, and somewhere around 340RWHP? (to optimistic) Or should I suck it up and just go for the 847?
