Dreaded white smoke

Hey everyone. After my lunch break today, I jumped into my car and turned the key. It made a thunk sound and thats it. I turned it again and the same. I turned it a third time and she started up. I start backing up when I notice a ton of white smoke. Is this a blown head gasket? I just had the Opti replaced about a month ago so I'm getting really tired of expensive fixes. Are there any other possibilities and whats involved with fixing a head gasket? Thanks

Head gasket or a cracked head. Has the engine been over heated lately?

No, in fact I didn't change back from the 160 stat this winter. It had a low coolant light for awhile after the opti replacement, but I added some and it went away. The engine hasnt been above the 180 mark on the gauge.

I dont really see any milkiness to the oil, but it just happened so i dont know if it has had time to mix around. I also turned it off right away.

Sounds like a head gasket.

It is not expensive to fix yourself. Min. about $100 bucks for gaskets. Having someone else to do it can be expensiive due to all the labor involved to get to the head gaskets.

If you do it yourself it is cheap but a little time consuming.

how many miles is on the car? i see its a 94. im assuming the head gaskets are stock... more than likely they are the culprit.. No big deal.. real easy to fix.

If you're gonna take the heads off may as well get them ported

The car has 99,820 miles on it. I actually decided to go out and buy a new car yesterday, so now I have a no stress chance to dig into the LT1 and fix that prob and hopefully mod it out over the course of the next couple of years (still in school). Don't be surprised if I jump on here to ask some more questions! Thanks all
