Drag Radials

Yep, i know this is the LT1 Tech section, but i have no clue where to ask this question. So here it goes.

I was planing on adding some 3.42's on my car in the next few months. Along with it i would like the chance to hook up. So i would like to put some drag radials on my car. I see the Nittos are DOT approved....but how are they in the rain?

Mods if you know of a better place to stick this thread, then go for it

Pretty much everyone in my local car club runs Nitto DRs, and the common consensus is that initially they are not too bad in the rain, but after you put some good runs on them, then it gets a little scary.

I've had both Nitto and BF Goodrich drag radials and prefer the BF for hooking. As long as the tread depth is good, the tires do OK in the rain. When they begin to get worn, be real careful.

I wouldnt exceed 50mph in the rain and if its heavy rain get off the road asap and wait it out. Nittos are the only drag radial I would use on the street all the time. Dont even think about tryn ET Streets in the rain.

Im about 10K miles into my Nitto Drs. Im running the 245/50/16s. At first they were pretty decent in the rain. And on simply wet pavement they still hooked up pretty good. After about 10K hard miles though, they are almost bald down the center and now its down right scary in rain. Anything more than a light rain gets scary on the highway. I've had it happen a number of times now going about 55mph in a moderate to heavy rain where the tail end just started fish tailing on its own, as if I was on ice. All in all, I love the tires though. They still spin from a dead stop but not nearly as bad as my old Cooper Cobras. From a roll they just hook and go. They also corner pretty well too.

As long as they have decent tread on them and it's not a downpour they are fine. I drive 70mph down the highway in normal rain and 55mph in downpours. This is with 275 nitto drag radials and skinnies up front. I do drive with traction control on also.

I ran 315 Nitto's on my LT1, they were great, even in the rain.
