Drag racing an automatic Z28

I've seen people race from pounding the floor and not letting up to reving their car to 3,000 RPM's and "launching" at the beginning of a drag. What is the best way to achieve the best acceleration from the start. My tires are BFGoodrich g3 9.5" wide so I have a large traction radius but currently ive just been flooring it and of course you fishtail a little and then move, but I have a feeling there is a much better way. Granted i have an automatic but i could rev in neutral if needed then pull the shifter into drive. (only problem there is id be in overdrive instead of drive) Any techniques would be great.

I have some people at school with a 2003 GT with NOS, a 96ish TransAm with unknown mods besides exterior and cowl hood, and a 2000 TransAm with a superZ hood. I'd like to smoke all of these cars but I dont have the experience dragging. View my car at http://members.sounddomain.com/ryanas if you need engine details or tire details.

DO NOT do a neutral drop, unless you want to buy a new tranny. When i had my A4 i just pushed it to the from a stop and went. I tried power braking but it always spun the wheels a lot more. So i say just mash the pedal and go.

DO NOT REV THEN GO FROM NEUTRAL TO ANY GEAR!!!!!!

Here's how I raced mine at the track. Put foot firmly on the brake, ease into the gas while stopped and foot on the brake to let the engine RPMs increase. Bring the RPMs to about 1300-1400. Whenever you are ready to take off let your foot off the brake and quickly roll into the throttle. Breaking traction is bad, try not to do it. Go out and practice launching until you get used to your tires grip, how quickly you can go full throttle etc.

Fast Z said it pretty well.

By applying the breaks you load up you stall convertor which allows you to launch fairly well, assuming you have traction.

About those tires I've heard the basic Goodyear Eagle F-1's are really good for the track and amazingly good for treadwear. The BFGoodrich g3 series would be your best bet. My treads are nearly gone otherwise I would have a lot better traction.

I've got the worst tires EVAR!!! Grand Spirit Radials Anyone ever heard of them?? Well there's a reason why you haven't!! The tread compound is about like melting a bunch of lego blocks down and forming it into a tire I'm about to fix the problem though, I have some BFG drag radials waiting to go on

yeah, if you are wanting a new tranny just do some neutral drops. u oughta need a new tranny by the end of the week...
HINT: don't put it in neutral, rev, then drop into OD or D. it will rape ur tranny.

Yep, blew my tranny last summer racing. Accidently slapped in Neutral, when I was going into OD.... would've cost me $1200 if it wasn't for the warranty

It redlined then I slapped in back in OD not knowing anything.... BOOM! It sounded like popcorn was cooking in my tranny pan
