Dowel pins necessary?

So I got my block decked and the machine shop forgot to reinstall the dowel pins and didn't give them to me. I am ready to put the heads back on and realized they weren't on there. Are they necessary or just for ease of installation? Any help would be great.

You probably shouldn't do that. I think it would be wiser to wait till tomorrow and get the pins to do it right. They probably serve to keep the heads in place during the torque sequence.
