dowel pin length on 95-97 LT1 cam

Does anyone know the correct installed length of the dowel pin for a 95-97 cam.

Comp Cams tech was nice enough to mail me a new cam dowel pin for free, since I'm doing the vented opti converstion. But I forgot to ask CC what the required stall length is...

Anybody know???

I have seen it posted as .620". Mine was .650" as seen on the left in this pic. On the right is the way too long CC pin.

Thanks Shoebox. I'll shoot for somewhere between .620" and .650" then.

I will add, by my measurements, there was still room for it to be longer. Before installing the CC, I matched it's dowel to my orginal one (that was .650").

The CC dowel was a wopping .840". Too long.

I see you're in H-town. I have a stock cam that you can have the dowel out of if you want. I want to keep the cam, but if you can get it out its yours.

Cool

I haven't made it out...mainly because I didn't know where it moved! I will be out there next week. I know I have seen your car out there before .

I have met Jim and his sickening car before .

Look for the crappy looking teal camaro .

Thanks for the picture Rob. I'm in the middle of replacing my new Comp Cams camshaft (long story, it was damaged, so I get some more cam install experience). I just went out to measure the dowel and it was .8375" long. It's unbelievable that it is so far off.

In the 2003 GMPP catalog on pg. 80 in the SBC cam section on LT1/4s, it states that the dowel should be .620" from the end of the cam shaft. If you have to pound and grind it down, the max O.D. is .250"
