Door frozen open?

I was washing the salt off of my underbody today and thoughti should mist the body too. Its in MI so sure enough, all the water froze.
I got my door open to pull it into the garage and then the door wouldnt close. It was due to the water freezing. I let it melt briefly and cleaned off all the ice on the door parts. I think now, it is a problem with the latch. I don't think its in the correct position and i dont know how to put it in the correct position to close, can anyone help me?

Re: Door frozen open?

Try using a punch or drill bit the same size as the striker - worst case, try a screwdriver or 1/4" bolt. There is a small flat plate that will go diagonally across the opening for the latch bolt. That is the open position. If the lock is not frozen, you should be able to move the latch mechenism by hand, using the tool above. That will put the latch in the closed position. Then you can just use the latch to open the mechenism. If it is still frozen, use a hair dryer (just don't let the wife catch you) to thaw the entire lock assembly.
