Doohickey on driver's side rear intake manifold?

I'm talking about the black thing that bolts to the rear most intake manifold bolt on the driver's side. What does it do? I've had my motor apart for a long time, and can't remember what hooks up to it and what it does.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the EGR valve. It's part of the emissions system. Junk it if you do not have testing.

Actually, I've already junked it.

There's another black plastic thing with vacuum hoses attached to it.

Thanks for the reply.

That would be the EGR solenoid. If you delete it without putting a resistor in the connector, you will get a code. What year is your car? Depending on the year, lack of the EGR valve could also set a code.

That sounds like the EGR solenoid which controlled the opening/closing of the EGR valve you previously trashed.

Removal of this piece *might* cause the PCM to give you a SES light.

I've got a '94. I'll see if I can take care of the code with lt1 edit.
Looks like it's taking a trip to the trash can. Thank you.

From his comment about the "motor being apart for so long", I made the ASSumption that he was just getting around to putting it back together, and might not have reached the point where he is monitoring trouble codes.
