donkey dong

what does the donkey dong do and why is it there also isnt it bad for the engine because it looks like air would just suck up into it unfiltered and it is the oval pice on the elbow right?

The, uh, "donkey dong" is only a noise suppressor, nothing else. Yes you can remove it, but you need to find a way to plug it up. OR, just get a 1LE elbow that doesn't have one on it.

Your car won't run right if you don't have the hole plugged somehow, because the MAF won't be able to read the air coming in correctly. It doesn't suck in dirty air with the "dong" installed, it's pinched off at the end if you haven't seen that already.

i removed mine months ago and instead of going out and getting the 1LE..i just drilled 7 holes through rubber and used SS screws, washers and nuts to seal up the hole and then i used a sealer to make sure it was totally sealed.

Pert Plus shampoo bottle top works perfectly. Just use that and some sealant and then duck tape it to make sure it is sealed. Did that to mine over a year ago.

Great minds think alike I also have the "pert plus" intake mod. I did that after installing my electric waterpump

He doesn't have a MAF. If that hose in the elbow is open you are letting unfiltered air into your motor. Plug it or get the 1LE elbow. I made a plug. Pics in my sig.

Stupid me i Didnt realize that it was pinched off at the end and I know you have to plug it up if you remove it but what advantage does that give you.

I used an Herbal Essence bottle bottom, worked great. Eventually got a 1LE unit because the old one was a bit soft.

It gets it out of your way, nothing more. If you had an electric pump, you'd need to eliminate it.

theres really no problem with the "donkey dong". i just recieved my 1LE intake elbow today and put it on, but that is because my other elbow tore. i say keep the one you have, and if/when the time comes that it tears. go for the 1LE elbow. it is nice having that damn dong thing gone though

It makes you cool

Removing the dong isn't going to give you any performance. You have to remove it when installing an electric waterpump. Since the stock bellows tend to rip easily many people just replace with a 1LE when that happens. Other than that.... it doesn't do any harm having it there, other than being a bit ugly and slightly more of a PITA when removing/installing the bellows.

MBA offers a plug for the hole. It's not cheap though. You'd probably be better off getting a 1LE elbow like everyone else has stated. You can get them pretty cheap from Jason Cromer. eBay has them every now and then too...
