Donkey Dong clearance and CSI electric water pump

For those of you with a CSI water pump, how do you manage to fit it in there? I just can't get the donkey dong (the bellow that goes straight down from the intake duct) to fit. Thanks

It's got to go. Cap off your stock elbow with a fancy piece from one of the online shops, make your own, or get a 1LE (what I did - but waaay before I got the CSI).

The 1LE elbow is missing the (in)famous "donkey dong" or the silencer baffle that goes straight down in front of the water pump. The 1LE cars were basically meant for SCCA showroom stock racing and got a few more performance-oriented enhancements.
The dong is a silencer baffle that surpresses the rushing air sound when you open the throttle wide, hence it has no practical purpose on a performance car (IMHO)

donkey dong

I cut the donkey dong off, then cut off the very tip off of the donkey dong and put it back into the hole. clamped it down with a clamp and wala.

The only thing that wasn't happy about all this was the donkey.

It's made from a chunk of delrin (a machineable plastic) that I got at a local plastic supply for 5 bucks and a couple of pieces of aluminum scrap that I had lying around, and a piece of the stock silencer tube that I cut up. And its held on with a zip tie.

Ok now I have to replace the elbow because the rubber is seperating around the throttle body side. I was quoted $167!!! For just that damn rubber piece. Where can I find the 1LE elbows, or any other cheap replacement? What works best on repairing that rubber? All suggestions appreciated.

Just do a search on Jason Cromer and give him a call. I don't remember what I paid for mine, but I'm pretty sure it was less than $70 (I'm thinking $50somthing, but... can't swear on that).

Definitely if you cut off the tearing rubber like a lot of people do only do this temporarily. Doing this cuts down the radius of the bend to the inlet. On my car, w/ my laptop scanning software, my car lost 11cfm of flow after doing this. What I did was got someone elses elbow (they had a S/C) and took out the dong. Then, I covered the hole from the inside w/ tight duct tape. Once i did that, I put some GREAT STUFF (polyurethane expanding foam) under the tape and sealedit in w/ more duct tape. Finally so that the foam didn't expand at all into the elbow, I filled the elbow w/ packed and crumpled newspaper. The next day I removed the tape and paper. And had a Perfectly smoothed space where the hole used to be. I picked up 9.8cfm @ 4500 rpms over stock.
One other alternative, especially if you like APPEARANCE is to by the Vortech S/C elbow. It's a perfect fit between the stock location of the MAF and the TB, and is a nice polished or satin aluminum (your choice).
