Doesnt start right away.
Doesnt start right away.
When i try to start my 94 Formula it will crank and all just wont actually start for the first few tries. Then it will fire right up and have no problem running. Just when you first try to start it for the day. If you go in somewhere and come back out it will start right up.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Doesnt start right away.
try turning the key to the start posistion so the fuel pump primes. Do this a couple times and then try to start the car. If this works I would suspect that you have a fuel pressure problem possibly. For some reason the fuel probably isn't making it up to the motor. Somebody please correct me if im wrong.
Re: Doesnt start right away.
When my car did that it needed new plugs. Once the new set was put on I could just tap the key and it would start right up. See if giving it some gas while turning the key helps it start. If this helps I'll bet it may be the plugs.
Re: Doesnt start right away.
I have this exact same problem. The car either starts on a very long first start or almost always after waiting a sec and trying again. I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump or regulator because I have new plugs/wires/opti/delteq.

Now im at kind of a delima. We are goin to Phoenix next month. (from kansas) wonderin if i should just swap it out even though it still works. Or just hope for the best? If it is the fuel pump how long will it last from doing this?

Honestly, it could be fine for a while or it could leave you walking one day. I've had my car for a little over a year and it has had a long start problem since the day I bought it, and the people I bought it from said it had been like that for several months. So far, the problem has been annoying and embarrassing more than anything else. But that doesn't mean you could be so "lucky" as I have been. Although I'm sure I just jinxed myself....better go see if the damn thing starts now......
Re: Doesnt start right away.
"Giving it gas" doesn't do anything to a fuel injected car other than set it in "flood" mode which helps start a motor that is flooded by cutting fuel delivery back a bit until started. The complete opposite of a carbed car. Try doing a WOT start and see if it helps quicken start up. If not, then try KOEO for a couple seconds and turn it back off. Do this several times to let the pump prime and if it starts up then, it may be a bad check valve and the fuel pump would need replaced. If this doesn't help but the WOT start up does help, then check the vac line to your FPR and see if its wet, if so the diaphragm in the FPR ruptured and is leaking fuel back into your manifold causing it to flood. If the line isn't wet, pull the fuel rails up and check for a leaking injector at KOEO. If an injector is stuck open it too will leak fuel back into the manifold flooding the engine and making start up longer. Another way of checking this is checking your oil for a fuel smell, since any excess fuel sitting in the manifold will eventually leak into the crank case causing oil contamination. If none of this proves any different, then it may be an ignition problem. And you can test from there.
Re: Doesnt start right away.
I am thinking about purchasing a 96 Z-28 with this same problem, if it is the fuel pump does anybody know the cost to have one replaced/the cost of a new fuel pump? Also, is the pump located in the tank?
