Question does the LT1 have a "safe mode"

okay as far as part of my post...on yanking the motor..now I just turned the car on to show a member the sound it made..but it didnt make a sound????

was wondering does the car have a safe mode?? and so what sounds does it make?? so it can limp home?? it was making alot of noise and no power. it also had no oil pressure and the radiator was overheating..sounded like it was hurt bad...would it stop making the sound if something internal was really broken?? or would it go away?

Im really confused right now on what to do.

Supposedly it does.
I don't know what it does, possibly retard the timing some and of course turn on the fans. There's only so much the computer can do if something is mechanically broken, though, it's only a crutch, not a fixit. Any noises should still be there unless it has something to do with ignition.

Of course if you have no oil pressure and it's overheating, I would think there would be a lot of noise not normally present.

Cool

the LT 1 can be pretty noisy when there is no coolant circulating. scary noisy. as long as it is not driven for prolonged period to create damage from heat - the noise will go away once coolant circulation is reestablished and engine is properly cooled

well thats the thing I had no reading on the guage and the check guage light came on, it was all the way down low. No I was thinking it was no oil pressure. I reved it a little and it jumped slightly. but today when I started it up for the first time in a week, the guage worked fine and was right in the middle on start up.

the claning was not their either??? it just sounded normal..if it got to hot would the oil guage not work right???

and none of my fluids are mixed..and seam to be okay???

hope that info helps.

Im having the same problem with my car...minus the coolant. But my oil pressure dropped to almost nothing. When i let it set for a long time and completely cool, then restart it...the oil pressure is fine until it complete heats up again. I posted something about it but not many ppl responded. One person however said that they had the same problem, and their oil pickup fell off of the pump. They replaced the pump and pickup and it went back to normal.

the oil pressure is a goofy thing on my car

when I got the car 2 years ago the old pressure would be between the red and the first mark at idle then increase w/ RPM

now when I turn it on it goes above half way and remains there, goes down a lil w/ rpm decrease and visa versa. After driving on it for a while it starts behaving like I described above

i dont really think it is a problem though
