I think its only hard on the a4 tranny to downshift only for the purpose of using your engine to stop (like i get to do in my manual). Downshifting while slowing down is not something an automatic normally does or is designed to do. Accelerating is different [ok] cause your downshifting for the same reason an automatic would normally downshift. ...unless you are downshifting to far, then you will be seeing more engine related problems as the tach is reading 7k or so

From what I understand, the 4L60E doesn't build the as much line pressure as needed when manually shifting, which slows it down. That's why it does't shift right when you move the lever, even if it is after the programmed shift point.

I'm wondering if that's taken into cosideration for trucks w/ the tow/haul mode. Those downshift during hill decent braking. Of coarse they have stonger trannies.

it only hurts when u hold it in gear at a high rpm for a while... it starts to really heat it up.. (if u have a tranny gauge, u'll see it)

My car is the quickest when I manually up shift it. Mine isn't a 4L60-E though. just a hydraulically controlled 4L60, I think I heard some parts are from the 700R4.

It is a TH700R4, the 4L60 is just GMs new name for it. Someone descibed it in another thread (4 = 4 gears L =? 60 = ?). Same tranny different name.

4 = 4 speed
L = Longitudinally mounted (front to rear)...T would be transverse(FWD)
60 = Torque range 60(not sure , they probably have a chart or something, but higher number, the stronger)
