Does ASR tie in w/Cruise Cont.?

ASR doesn't control my cruise control does it? You know the cervo motor that sits atop the left bank valve cover? thats not what controls my cruise control is it? ( the cars a 96 Z28 M6 for reference)

It ties into, but doesn't "control" it.

I believe the ASR funtion is part of the traction control system. The Cruise Control Module controls the stepper motor for the cruise control. The cruise control module has inputs from the brakes directly as well as the EBCM/EBTCM (electronic brake (traction) control module). As you know, when you apply the brakes, this disengages the cruise control. I have to assume since the EB(T)CM provides a signal to the cruise control module, that it too could disengage the cruise control. It would make sense that the system would shut down the cruise if you have a wheel slipping.

So the ASR function of the traction control does not "control" the cruise control, however if the system goes into LOW TRAC, it must disengage the cruise control.

I have ABS but not traction control and have never been in a situation where the cruise control was on and had a LOW TRAC condition. So I have never experienced it. A very interesting question that I had never thought about. Maybe someone could chime in and tell us if they have experienced wheel slip while in cruise control. When you think about it, that's scary. If you knew there was a slippery condition, you wouldn't engage the cruise. So if this phenomenon occurs, it would be by pure accident and woo hooo I hope I never do have that happen.

BTW, did you know if your center brake light is out, the cruise control will not work!!!!!

I just love thought provocking(spelling) questions.
