Question Do underdrive pulley kits actually do anything?

I have been seeing these kits for sale all over the net. Most of these kits say they will give an hp gain of around 12hp and I was thinking of about picking up a kit since the most expensive one I have found cost around $160. I do not expect much of a hp gain but I was wondering do these kits really save wear and tear on your pulley driven devices like your alternator and waterpump?

Thanks for the help,

Chris

Don't do it looking for HP gains, because the gains will be minimal.

They are very helpful in saving wear on you powersteering pump, especially if you auto-x or road race.

Your water pump is not pulley driven.
