I just pour oil in until it starts overflowing out of the fill tunnel.

If you use a PF1218 filter, it takes 5 quarts exactly.

Fill the filter and moisten the seal before installing it. Then add 4 quarts. Allow time for drain-down. Then check the oil level... add oil as necessary.

Even the owner's manuals vary from 4.5-5 quarts from 93-97 and they all used the same filter.

I've always done 5 with the old standard PF25 and have had no troubles.

My 93 service manual says 4.5 -- 94+ used 4 quarts.

That's not totally accurate (but what is? )

Here is what the owner's manuals actually say and it is not going to help the confusion any:

1993
Camaro/Firebird 4.5

1994
Camaro/Firebird 5.0

1995
Camaro 4.5, Firebird 5.0

1996
Camaro 4.5, Firebird 5.0

1997
Camaro/Firebird 5.0

This is with filter change if the manual mentions it.

Just fill it to the full mark on your particular dipstick.

I run the long filter and put in 5.3 quarts. In the past I've even run 5.5 with no problems.

Weird, using the PF25 filter(or equivalent) I have always used 5 quarts. It comes up exactly to the full line too.
