do i replace dead opti so coil packs work?
do i replace dead opti so coil packs work?
my opti is dead, i dont want to buy another one and i want to buy a coil pack system (which one i dont know, i have been reading alot on deltec, ltcc, and even about injuneers system.... but i iwll decide later on) my question is do i need to buy another opti to make the coil pack run because mine is bad?
because that would blow
i have searched for this answer and cant find it. hour of my time wasted

Re: do i replace dead opti so coil packs work?
the things is how do i know if the low res is bad... freak i hope not.... if the high res is bad willt hat cause the car not to run, and is there a possibility that the low res is good?
Re: do i replace dead opti so coil packs work?
There are 3 possible problems with the Opti.
1. Loss of high resolution pulse pattern. Engine will run, PCM will use low resolution pulse pattern, losing a small amount off ignition timing accuracy. You will never notice the difference. It will set a code for the loss of the high res pulse.
2. Loss of low resolution pulse pattern. When the PCM can not find the low res pulse for two revs of the crank, it shuts down the fuel system, including pump and injectors. Engine will not run. Sets code for loss of low res pulse.
3. Cap/rotor failure, carbon tracking, moisture buildup. Engine will run eratically or not at all. Does not set a code, except for the indirect P0300 random misfire code in OBD-II. (You didn't tell us what year your car is, and don't have a signature, so its hard to give you a specific answer, like the exact codes.)
To convert to the 8 LS-1 style coils using the LTCC system, or the Celteq with the 4 Northstar style coils, your Opti must have a correctly functioning optical sensor, producing the correct high and low res pulse patterns. The systems will work if the high voltage section (cap/rotor) is defective.

1996 formula... bolt ons, cam gears. I hope she runs smoother with coils.
how do i check the low resolution? i dont have a scanner

Re: do i replace dead opti so coil packs work?
i just did the test again on one of the optis, and i got it to pulse 1-4 volts on the a and b terminal, using the DC scale... on Ac i couldnt get crap.... soo i iam asuming that i found the good opti!!!! also i will look into where to buy a new optical sensor and post it asap.
Re: do i replace dead opti so coil packs work?
Advance Auto sells the mitsubishi thingy you are taking about. It is 60 bucks. I have bought one and you can take it off your core opti if you get a replacement. Be careful though, pull it straight up when removing and make sure the pins are super straight when intalling the new one. The pins bend easy.

thats the guy who stated it, but he didnt have a part # he then stsated that he ordered it from advanced auto parts. But Injuneer also stated a great popint if you are oging to be tinkering witht he opti replacing parts it is 100% more safe just to get an oem one and not worry about it. i think if my optis were bad i would get an oem one.
