I mean, I don't think anyone will ever see it. Plus I'd like to keep the total cost down. All these people are having muffler shops custom make Y-pipes uncoated. So is their any good reason to get a coated one if I just get the Hooker Y-pipe?

NO... no one will see it so who care's. Personally I think it's a waste to coat the header's as well. Why pay almost $250 for a pretty header Spend it on something that will make you go FASTER

I thought ceramic coating helped keep the heat down in the engine bay also? Plus it's supposed to lengthen the life of the headers too? am I wrong?

No I dont think you are wrong, at least not in my opinion. The Ceramic Coating does lengthen the life of headers, especially non-SS ones. Yes it makes them look pretty which is icing on the cake. Also it does reduce engine compartment heat and directs more heat out the exhaust rather that into the engine bay through the metal. The coating also supposedly gains you 7-9 HP which is minimal but every bit counts. Just me, Coat the headers, but as far as the Y-pipe forget it unless you have the money or want it to be protected very well.
