Do I need pullies?

Would underdrive pullies be that benefical with h/c package? The pricing isn't too bad, how much HP do they free up?

Not needed. EWP will do more without all the brain damage.

To each his/her own, but I believe the less drag on the engine, the better the throttle response. As far as freeing up more power--can't say---but I love it the faster throttle response I get out of hole. JMHO

At the strip just take the belt off or run a short belt.

0.7 HP peak.... a bit more average. Its highly unlikely you would feel "faster throttle response out of the hole" from that small a change.

Re: Do I need pullies?

Well to re phrase: I like the quick response of the engine to accelerate from idle---since the car itself has never come out of the "hole" I was remiss in my explanation. Installing the march 2-pulley set up was one of the very first things I did when I purchased the car, so I guess I don't have a base reference to compare---just made sense to me---although a lot of things made sense to me when I first started to do bolt ons. Over time I have learned that many of the so-called power enhancing mods were vendor driven and not a result of true experience.

Still believe, however, that UDs are cost effective mod which reduce the drag and perhaps prolong the life of pulley driven accessories. JMHO

Re: Do I need pullies?

To my knowledge, the real gain from underdrive pulleys is that you take weight off the nose of the crank.

With LT1 power pulleys, you put the smaller one over the balancer because it isn't a balancer itself. You might put less power into the accessories, but you're adding that much more weight to the crank.

For fun, I took off the balancer and just ran the power pulley and picked up 1 tenth and 1 mph when I was on the stock motor.

Re: Do I need pullies?

There is an integrated (reduced weight) LT1 damper/UD pulley available from ASP.

And is not a "balancer".... its a "harmonic damper".

Dirt track sprint cars do it all the time. The crank trigger and the water pump are driven off of the crank and the cam drives the fuel and power steering pump all enclosed direct drive.
