Do I need new Valve covers with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers?
Do I need new Valve covers with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers?
I will be installing 1.6 scorpion rolling rockers on my freshly rebuilt motor.
They don't look like they will fit with the stock valve covers and I was curious if I need after market valve covers? If so which kind is best?
Thanks in advance

MDZ28:
I also have a 95. Don't know about the Scorpions but I have no problems with SA Crane Gold 1.6 rockers. I've heard if the rockers are NOT self aligning, they're wider and need some sniping of the cover drip fixtures. Hopefully someone with Scorpions will reply. There are users on this board with them. The search function here isn't very good but I'd try it anyway.

Re: Do I need new Valve covers with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers?
Its easy to check if you need some trimming. Just set them on the heads and turn the engine over. If the rockers lift the valve covers then you do. Easy enough. When they are bolted down, they are a smidgen closer to the rockers so keep that in mind.
Re: Do I need new Valve covers with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers?
The interference is usually with the web that supports the center bolt tube. If that hits you can either flatten the web or cut only one side of the web. Not sure on the Scorpions, but most others just need the web cleared.
Re: Do I need new Valve covers with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers?
I ran scorpion 1.6 ratio narrow bodies under stock valve covers without any trimming on a previous setup, if they are the narrow bodies you shouldn't have a problem
Re: Do I need new Valve covers with 1.6 scorpion roller rockers?
Ill have to do a little more research. From what I can tell I definitely need to trim a little of the webbing in the valve covers to accommodate these rockers.
the exact rockers that I have are:
1.6 SBC 3/8 Self aligning V8 305-350 Vortec part#SCP1036bl
From what I can tell they are the narrow body's. But they do not look like they will fit. I guess I will just have to wait until the are in and test fit then.
