do I need to drain coolant to remove intake/valvetrain?

I'm going to take off the valve covers and possibly the intake manifold. I want to inspect my valvetrain for damage. My question is, when I do this do I need to drain the coolant first?? I wouldn't think so but I know the LT1 is reverse flow cooling and maybe there is some wierd reason I might have to.

THanks,
Brian

You do not have to touch the cooling system to pull the valve covers and
there are no coolant passages in the intake. If your car is stock you will have coolant in the throttle body. I lower my coolant level until it now longer comes out of the tubing that connects the heads to the TB.

Re: do I need to drain coolant to remove intake/valvetrain?

I could do it in 30 minutes....

My whole intake from elbow to CAI filter is one peice, so 1 elbow to TB clamp, 2 sensor wires, 1 AIR tube and bam its out. 2 minutes

Then its wiring harness, 5 minutes

Throttle and cruise cable 3 minutes (with bracket)

Fuel lines 5 minutes as long as you know how to use the tool

10 Minutes for the intake manifold bolts

If you need to mess with the egr tube in back give it another 10 there just in case, 30-40. No sweat

Yep, that's how long it took me last time I pulled my intake

Takes me a little longer on stock cars that still have all the factory clips and crap, the injector clips (i've got svo's), etc...
