I'm going to be replacing the opti on my 94 Trans Am right away and was considering changing it to the vented style. One of the guides I saw showed them replacing the brand new 94 opti cap with a 95+ vented one. The other guide I saw (http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/16758/index.html) shows them just drilling the holes and adding the vent lines.

Which way is 'correct' am I missing something on the corvettefever guide where they do switch to the vented cap? (I don't really want to spend a bunch more money on a cap when I just spent $300 on a new opti..)

Another question. I had the car sitting for ~2 years. After starting it it did smoke white a bit out the exhaust. Does not smell sweet or anything. The gas was old (did not drain it, nor add stabil when storing it.) Once it warms up its fine. The oil looks like oil, and the coolant looks like coolant. (Car was stored outside, in Alberta)

Is that just moisture in the system? Piston seals got a little dry? Anything I should worry about?

One last question. I'm having a heck of a time finding coolant hoses for the water pump. The Pontiac dealer here says they don't make them and can't get them any longer. I've been to three auto parts stores and none of them have been able to get them either. Anyone used bulk tubing to 'make' their own? Any good place to get them?

The Corvette Fever article uses the vented cap plus the modification to the opti housing. You can't do a conversion with just a vented cap. Now, if you buy an MSD cap and rotor kit, it has their own way of totally venting the opti. That's probably the easiest way to do it. Look up the instructions on their website.

I would not worry about any moisture when your first start it, as long as it clears up when warm and you have no other symptorms.

What hoses are you looking for? I've had no trouble finding hoses.

The last thing you want circulating through your engine is 2 year old oil, coolant and gas. Change all three ASAP, or you'll be replacing more than just fluids. IMO, just starting a motor up after being stored outside, uncovered, and in Canada isn't a good idea. Things dry out, rot, settle, etc. There's probably all types of crap in the exhaust and crank-case that accumulated over 2 years. I would expect alot to burn off. But like I said, change ALL the fluids, asap.

You shouldn't have any problem finding heater hoses from a parts store. They are readily available down here in the states and most places even have them in stock. Can't help you there...

I agree with Ram Air and Shoe box if it continues there is cause for concern , but cange the fluids. Top off the tank with fresh gas and drive it . LF
