Do I install the rear main seal dry?
Do I install the rear main seal dry?
So far 2 people told me to put a light coat of black RTV on the outside and a light coat of oil on the inside, and one guy told me to install it dry. Which is it?
Its a GM gasket if that matters.

Re: Do I install the rear main seal dry?
If all parts are clean and the seal is installed correctly it needs no sealant.
If the seal is cocked or was beaten in by a big hammer enough to egg shape the od of the seal it could leak on the outside.

Um I don't know which way it goes in. On the outside it narrows up a bit, and I'm guessing the narrow part is the front? And I really dont see any lube in the middle.
