DIY Cutouts?

I saw some non-motorized cutouts online for like 30$ each. I was wondering If I should get them and if its possible to make my own motors to open and close them when i get a chance(Save a couple hundred bucks).
I was also wondering if i should get two or one and put it at the end of the y-pipe? Also, what size do i need for the stock y-pipe(May upgrade soon so should i get a bigger size, dont know which one yet though)?
Btw, do i have to do any welding because i don't have that equipment or do i just cut a piece of pipe and add my own?
