Ditching the TA and putting motor in 73 camaro
Hey guys ive finally decided to get back into the lt1 scene. Well to start, ive got a really good motor in a pos car(needs exterior repair, trans is slipping, rear end about to go ect...).
So my dad has a 73 camaro that is basicly stock and he wants my engine. I know i can swap the lt1 in but have a few questions.
1. I have the Racetronix fuel pump kit, can i put it in his fuel tank or could i just put my tank in the trunk of his car or just run a fuel cell?
2. What is involved in wiring my harness...could someone point me to a site with a diagram. He would like to use the stock tach in his car.
3. His car is a muncie 4 speed and he wants to keep it a manual. For now could i just keep it and use the flywheel off his engine? How hard would it be to retrofit a 5 or 6 speed to the 73?
4. Would my hooker headers from TA fit or would the headers on the 73 bolt up to the lt1?
Thanks guys and sorry i didn't search more but i have limited time on the net to sort through all the answers. I think this would be really cool and it would cost 6 grand or so to make my car the way i want it and i dont have it. Kinda bout an 07 cummins megacab and got into the whole diesel scene, but hate to see my heads/cam lt1 just sit in my back yard.

1. You may be able to make the Racetronix fuel pump work, I didn't have much luck or talent running an in-tank pump. So I bought a new tank and went with a bottom feed and an external Walbro 255. A fuel cell would be good also, takes the fear out of drilling a hole in a new fuel tank

2. I used a Tech Rods harness since I didn't have a harness, but I also bought a Haynes manual for my donor (`94 Firebird) and used this site and shoebox.com for most of my references.
3. I changed from a TH350 to a 4L60E and only had to move the tranny mount. I'll bet you can use the old flywheel, clutch and trans for now. The T56 swap is pretty popular and can be done with time and money, search for that here under the transmission section.
4. I learned this one the hard way, I bought a new set of Pacesetter LT's for my swap into a 1980 Camaro, they were for a 93-96 Camaro/Firebird. Seems like the 3rd gen's have a wider frame section, anyway they did not fit! Use the headers from the `73, you'll need to get O2 bungs welded in or there are also some companies that make header collectors with O2 bungs.
So let's see some pictures!!!!!
Here's a link to mine: http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23532
And I like your story, my son bought a wrecked `94 Firebird that we fixed about the same time I went looking for an LT1 & 4L60E to swap into my Camaro, and we learned about them together.

Thanks for all the info it helps alot. Glad you like the story, ive been trying to get my dad to even drive his car for the past 10 years so i think this is a perfect project to make his car much more enjoyable to drive.
