Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
People have had both great and horrible experiences with both PCMforless and Madwolf. That's part of it. If you had 50 people a day emailing you asking to troubleshoot it's hard to be patient with all of them.
Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
In fact, he is not questioning PCMFORLESS ability to do a mail tune correctly, heis questioning the fact that Brian was unhabitable with his problems. Some times a company needs to have a team of customer service associates dealing only with customers. A technician may become aggravated and tired of trying to troubloshoot over the phone. I called PCMFORLESS some time ago and spoke with Brian, he seemed to be in a rush and did not answer all my questions.
Just my .02

Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
Just my .02 . . but he's spending alot of time defending and pointing fingers .. i just don't see how this is helping.
Try helping him with his car . . maybe then he would apoligize and you wouldn't have to post 3 or 4 times about how it isn't your fault (PCMforless).
It does however sound like the car, not the tune. These cars are very touchy and love the attention!
Hope i don't offend anyone! thats not what i'm here to do.

Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
Let me eloaborate on what I mean in my earlier post. If you load the original tune and the problem doesn't go away which is most likely won't. Then you should stop bashing Brian. Also from a technicians stand point Bryan telling you he needs the car there is not unreasonable. Tunning a car is complicated or else you wouldn't be having someone else do it for you huh.
I'm not trying to argue with you. Just schedule some dyno time with Brian and take a short vacation.

Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
I have to agree, a mail order tune is what it is, and is NOT a dyno tune. Bryan can only give you so much assistance over the phone, and it is not like he is telling you he will not help you, it just sounds like he is saying "look, it can't tell you exactly what is wrong without being able to physically inspect the car".
BTW, Alvin is quite correct in saying that there is no way for him to control left vs. right bank, I have LT1 edit currently, and there is nothing that will let you differentiate in the banks. It really does sound like it has to be a mechanical/electrical issue. My guess would be an impedance issue from a short/deficiency in the wiring.
I recommend getting the car to a mechanic if you cannot diagnose the issue yourself, or if you decide not to take up the offer to bring it to bryan for help. However I have to say that I believe that bryan fulfilled his business obligations. Beleive me when I say I am not trying to offend you, but sometimes there is no substitute for a *good* local mechanic.

Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
Ok and this is why I will never build a high horsepower NA motor. Because no matter how many hours you put into it tuning-wise.. it will always stink without cats, it will always have SOME cam surge, it will always get bad gas mileage, it will always have split BLMs and it will always drive you and those around you nuts trying to get it perfect. If you cant handle these annoyances then just go back to stock or try something less radical. Without the ability to look at datalogs youd never know these problems exist and if everybody had the ability to datalog, theyd all be complaining about the same things.

If you ever get a chance, compare a tune from Ion with one from Bryan. The differences arent very drastic at all... not that many variables a guy can really change in a tune and that is especially true for heads/cam on stock displacement motors. Hell get a hotcam tune on stock heads from one and compare it with a GM847/ported heads and theyll be 90% identical.
Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
Alvin, you need to take a step back here. First off, If a tuner is busy or annoyed by the fact that he has soo many customers, he should simply tell the customer that he is busy, not rush them off the phone. Second, I know a mail order tune will not always be perfect, but pretty close. Second, I am aware of their not being a bank 1 and bank 2 control, as I too have tuned a few cars. This car was did not have a o2 problem after the first tune. What it had that needed to be corrected was that the cam was showing a false lean condition and the o2's would richen the hell out of the car at idle. I called Bryan, and he said he was gonna try something different. Sent me a new file, and boom the o2 problem was present. This was all done the same day. He played with it and couldnt get it to work. As a matter of fact, Brad A.K.A Turbo Z, helped me out a whole lot, in getting the car into Idle pe mode, and limiting the LTerms and STerms from skyrocketing and over correcting this "false" lean condition due to the narrow lsa. After sending Bryan a few e-mails a couple of phone calls, I believe he was surprised that I knew a thing or two about tuning. Im not saying im a pro, cause if I was, I wouldnt be here asking for help nor contacting PCMFORLESS.
Point two, Im not here bashing, not saying YOU GUYS SUCK. I am stating (please refer to my original post, and title of this thread) that I am disappointed in the way he treated me, as a loyal customer. Bad day or not, he should have not rushed me off the phone saying his repetative "Well the car aint here". If that were the case, what the hell is he doing mail order tunes for? He is suppose to be knowledgable enough to try and diagnose and fix a car WITHOUT it being present. Dont we all wish we could just put a setup together, call in our setup to a local tuner, and be done? Unfortunately it doesnt work that way, thats why we need TUNING. Im not by anymeans saying you guys dont know what your doing, or for people not to be going to you guys. What I am saying is that his customer service really pissed me off today. And frankly Customer service matters a lot.... to me and to a lot of other people. Thats how you build a reputation. Take it as it is. Thank You.

Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
i think you should send Bryan a PM or call him and tell him that you are not happy with the results from his tune. Ask him if he is willing to try to make you happy. You dont have to do this but i think it is best for the consumer and the company. Im sure he will be willing to try to make you happy. I know that customer service makes a big difference, especially, like posted above, when there isnt too much difference between Ion's tune and Bryan's tune.
Re: Disappointed with PCMFORLESS
Big cam cars are going to show a false lean at idle. Plain and simple. The best method to combat that has been beaten to death in the computer section of this site, and since you have done your own tuning before I suggest you read up and get your hands dirty.
His job isn't to troubleshoot your mechanical problems. Go back to your first tune if the only problem was the false lean. Chances are that you have an exhaust leak that is making things worse and you just don't know about it.
If you can go to a different tune NOW and the problem goes away then it was the tune, but like many other people have said, its not going to disappear.
BTW, I have a modified MADZ28 tune in the car right now, and have run PCMforless tunes previously. I am not biased to either company as the tune from both has been exactly what I asked for.
