Disable knock sensor?

I'm going to disable my knock sensor , so I went to radio shack and purchased some resistors I could not find 4.5ohms the closest was 4.7 ohms ? can i use the 4.7 instead if not where can i get the 4.5s?

Why not just replace it with a properly functioning one? I doubt it's that expensive of a part to purchase.

Ok, if I were to do something like remove my knock sensor, I'd have it tuned out of the PCM completely.

Also, if you're hell-bent on removing it, I'd at least replace it with one of those units that plugs into the knock sensor location, and has a light you mount on the dash that lights up whenever it detects knock. That way you could let off the throttle whenever that thing starts blinking like a Christmas tree, and keep from totally destroying your engine.

I saw mention of that little doohicky in a thread a while back.

I'm not going to remove it , im just putting a resitor on the knock sensor wire and grounding it, to disable it just need to know if a 4.7ohm resitor will work in stead of a 4.5

I'm not for certain, but a 4.7ohm probably wouldn't work. If 4.5ohms is the specific resistance that the PCM needs to have to believe the KS there and functioning properly, then the 4.7ohm would probably throw an SES light and could possibly throw timing off even worse.

Does anyone know where I can get the 4.5ohm resistors?

why not just try it? the 4.7 ohm resistor cant be too much money. either it will work, or it wont and you take it back out. cant radio shack get the 4.5ohm? if not, maybe you can get two 2.25 ohm resisters in series?

Have you determined if the knock you are seeing is REAL or FALSE? Run 100+ octane and see if the knock goes away. If it does, you have REAL knock, and disabling the knock sensor will only hurt you. It's nice to know it is there, so I don't see a reason to completely eliminate it.

I would replace the knock sensor. It's relatively cheap (under $20.00).

I am pretty sure that I used a 1/2 watt 4.7ohm resistor from radio shack, and it works great (zero knock count / zero knock retard).

But that doesn't necessarily gaurantee zero knock.

No, but the C-16 in my tank does. I actually have a toggle switch mounted near my PCM that switches between the resistor and the knock sensor... great for visits to the track.
