Dis-assembling alternator case
Dis-assembling alternator case
I'm trying to get my alternator apart to send the case halfs in for powder coating. I got the pulley off, and four long bolts on the outside off. I would think it should just split apart to get inside. I can't see any other bolts on the outside of the case. The case is lose and I can rock it side to side slightly. I even tried some slight pressure with a small pry bar but it's not budging.
Is the case pressed onto the shaft? Are there other bolts on the inside that I'm missing? Anyone that is familiar with this at all, please enlighten me.
Thanks,
Mike

it's just those four bolts if I remember right, it's been a couple years since I've done it. I had to use a heavy screwdriver to pull it apart, adn things have to be lined up right to go back together, that in combination with keeping the brushes put makes it a bit of a chore, but not too bad.

. After the 3rd attempt I gave up and put a stock painted altnernator on there.
Case in point, (no pun intended); If you have it powdercoated, request that they at least tape off all electrical contact points along with the bearing seats.
