Direction of pushrods matteR?

Does the direction of the pushrod matter? I removed all mine and it seems that some are reversed. (There is a small slit on the outside wall of the rod near the top or bottom) Should this small slit be inside the engine by the cam or outside by the lifters?

Re: Direction of pushrods matteR?

I think there was a dot on the side of the pushrod that indicated top on my stock pushrods.
