diffrence between parallel and splayed 4 bolt
Re: diffrence between parallel and splayed 4 bolt
On SBCs the 3 center caps are where the 4 bolt caps are, the outer 2 bolts on each cap will either be parallel to the center bolts on the same cap, or angled with the heads toward the center bolts .

Re: diffrence between parallel and splayed 4 bolt
yeah if u have a 4 bolt block u cant do splayed caps u will need a 2 bolt block and drill for the splayed caps. splayed caps go in at an angle some are diff mine were 12.5 degree angle. splayed caps are stronger than the 4 bolt. i did the splayed cap on my motor im building and filled the block half way so it shoudl be pretty strong.
Re: diffrence between parallel and splayed 4 bolt
There's been some discussion about straight vs splayed. On stock LTx blocks, it's usually better to go straight in with all 4 bolts since the bulk heads are thicker there than angled towards the outer wall of the block. Bret and others agree on this. But splayed caps might actually be better on stronger aftermarket blocks since they're more rigid and have more meat in those areas.
