Re: Different year Z28 LT-1s?????

Well here's the "need to know" info"

93- no maf
93-94- non vented opti
93-95- obd1, single cat (dual cats on cali cars)
95-97- vented opti
96-97- obd2, dual cats

The only difference is the cam/opti/timing gears/chain/cover setup based on which opti was used. If you're building up from just the block you won't have any problems at all.

arent the knock sensors different in the earlier motors also?

and i read somewhere that some have oil coolers and some years dont....true?

i was just thinking of the PCM on my OBDII PCM being compatable with the different knock sensor.....

All you need to do is swap your old parts.... like the knock sensor, Opti, timing cover, etc... from your old block to the new block. If you are buying a used block, you will have to swap over all your old sensors, and hardware items. You strip the used block, tank it, and then transfer your old parts. The blocks all interchangeable. There is only one basic LT1 block, and it was used in all years of the F-Bodys, B-Bodys and the Corvette. The only physical difference you will find is 4-bolt mains in the Corvette blocks.

If the new block still has the optional oil cooler on it, you could choose to keep it or get rid of it.... still the same block, just different "attachments".

Some additional differences in the block "internals" are noted in this article (but the blocks are all the same):
