Differences Between SLP Headers
Differences Between SLP Headers
What is the difference between 93-95 and 96-97 SLP headers. I have a 97 SS but I have the cats removed. If number of cats is the only difference, I could use 93-95 ones in my car if they peform better than the 96-97 ones. Also any recommendation for the correct Y pipes for both headers will be appreciated. The rest of exhaust will be a Borla catback system.
In its current form the car has stock exhaust manifolds and a dual dual exhaust wtihout catalytic converters. How much power increase from could be achieved from the slp headers and borla setup?

Re: Differences Between SLP Headers
The 96-97 models have shorter primaries to compensate for the having to keep the factory y-pipe. The 93-95 style come are more mid length and include a y-pipe. The 96 style being dual cat was said to flow better than single cat model. That being said I went with the 93+ style on my 96SS and never looked back. I felt a good increase in power and I used a single carsound hiflow cat.
Re: Differences Between SLP Headers
I cant stress enough not to get the 96-97 style. They are a terrible design, but a great waste of money. Buy a single cat style and get the S-pipe to make them fit. And while your doing that, RK's are basically the same thing for $200 less. I'd look into those or see the giant header thread in here.

Re: Differences Between SLP Headers
I have a 97 with the slp shorts. I use a random Y with 2 bullit cats. Helped alot. Also a mufflex 3 1/2". The seal on the driver side is a problem. I use a 2 1/2 copper collector gasket, drill 3 - 1/8 holes thur the random Y attachment plate, and, rivit the copper gasket. It seals good. Also, you don't have to deal with a loose gasket. Not that I like the slp much, but, I have low ground clearance, and. long tubes could be a problem. The passenger side uses a std 3" copper collector gasket. Use 0.005" shim stock to check the joint is sealed. If the fasteners close the flange joint, there can be leaks. I ground reliefs in the random flange to prevent this from happening. The slp flange can deform with heat, and, result in a leak. Especially with a blower.
