difference between lt1 ss and z28??

what does the (96?,97?) lt1 ss have that gives it 20hp over the z28 of the same year? its not just a different exhaust or anything like that is it?

Im about 99% sure he was referring to an LT1 SS. No mention of LS1s that I was aware of. As far as I know, the SS is just a bolt on car.

so as far as engine mods go, if its only intake and exhaust that makes the lt1ss faster than an lt1z28, then a z with cutout and cai should make as much power??

Just a different suspension, intake, and a little better exhaust.

it almost makes you wonder if it is worth it for the ss. i mean you pay 3-4 grand more for just those few things and plus higher insurance. looking at those two cars on the dealership floor (back when they was still making them). i dont think i could honestly justify paying that mcuh more for that few of mods and the hike in insurance. but saying all that i guess to each his own.

Well, about 95% of us f-body owners don't own SS's, so you're in good company...

The SS isnt more to insure, they are the same to the insurance company.

the SS comes with

torsen rear end
performance exhaust
race suspension
hurst shifter
oil cooler
Floor mats
car cover
Special wheels and tires
syn lubes
functional ram air hood
spoiler with the fin.
special spacing to fit the wide wheels

some of these are options, not all SS's came with them.

I think it's a lot easier to buy the SS rather than the Z because your financing your parts into the price of the car, and they are limited numbers of them and they hold their value better.

you cant possible tell me that a car that has more horsepower isn't more than insure. espically one as that. most people dont buy camaros to just drive slow all the time. much less the ss and insurance copanies are always looking for a reason to charge more. and a performance package gives them one.

My SS is less to insure than my 95 mustang GT Conv't was. Its a performance camaro, Z28 or SS it is the same.

Insurance on mine & the wifes 01' SS Monte, run us about $1200 a year for both in Calif. It depends on your driving record......
I'll take the SS with the SLP add on's anytime...
