Difference between cams for LT1 and non LT1's
Difference between cams for LT1 and non LT1's
I noticed Comp Cams and Crower put labels that there cams are for LT1/4 specific etc. What is the difference? IS it just the dowel ? Can I use other than LT1/4 cams, as there are better choices out there? Just getting my ducks in a row so I dont choose the wrong kind.
According to Comp Cams it is this.http://www.compcams.com/Technical/C...TML/120-123.asp Anyone use different cam than "LT1/4" specific?
This article kind of explains it. I have the hot cam in there now, and when I pull the motor I will inspect it. I am sure GM has it set up to accomadate most motors.

Re: Difference between cams for LT1 and non LT1's
I am just concerned if I put a "non LT1" Hydraulic Roller in it will not fit. There just seems to be more choices to play with out there than the specific LT1/4 cams. I am sure someone has used other than LT1/4 cams.
Re: Difference between cams for LT1 and non LT1's
93-4 LT1 cams are the same as a normal SBC. for 95-97, the LT1 cams require a 1/2" diameter by ~1" long hole in the center of the cam snout to accept the opti shaft, and also need a longer dowel pin to drive the opti. Cam Motion will modify their non-LT1 cams to be used in 95-97 LT1 setup for $25 (or at least thats what they used to charge). i would assume Comp and other companies would be willing to do the same.
going the other way, all 93-97 LT1 cams can be used in a normal roller cam SBC block no problem, as long as they have the fuel pump pushrod lobe on them, which most do since the cam companies usually grind LT1 cams on normal SBC cores. obviously if you have a normal SBC and are using an electric pump, that wouldnt matter anyways
